Indwe among the best employers in the industry

Indwe Risk Services has moved up the ranks in the 2009 Deloitte’s Best Company to Work For Survey yet again, stopping two spots short of the top 10 overall in the category for medium-sized businesses.

It is a considerable improvement on their 77th and 44th placings a few years back when they were still Prestasi.

“We are very proud of this achievement,” says Jabulani Sibisi, Indwe’s HR Director. “It is the result of a conscious effort to address the issues revealed in previous surveys and to move Indwe towards HR best practice.

“Last year we were placed 14th and this year 12th overall, so we are steadily making our way towards the top 10.”

In the Financial Services: Insurance category they are already there with a 9th position – up two spots from last year’s 11th placing. Indwe was also part of a group of 48 companies recognised by Deloitte for achieving an overall mean score in excess of the standard threshold of 3.7.

The Deloitte’s Best Company to Work For Survey is aimed at recognising South African employers who demonstrate a commitment to talent management and HR best practice.

Companies are judged in 11 categories: Organisational Strategy; HR Function; Company Leadership; Communication; Diversity Management; Corporate Social Responsibility; Knowledge Management; Talent Management and Development; Employee Training and Development; Performance Management; and Rewards and Recognition.

These areas are already targeted in Indwe’s HR policy, making the survey the ideal tool to measure their progress towards achieving their goals.

“Our primary purpose for participating in the survey is to hear our employees’ views and perceptions of Indwe as an employer and to implement corrective measures to address the areas of concern,” says Sibisi.  “We firmly believe in treating employees with care and dignity at all times and to keep open lines of communication.”

The general wellbeing of employees is also addressed with an internal support programme that provides assistance with stress management, personal issues like bereavement and trauma counselling.

“We will continue to make every effort to create an equitable working environment that supports the growth and advancement of our staff,” says Sibisi.

Indwe Risk Services is the largest empowered short-term broker in the country, offering motor and household as well as Commercial, Corporate and Industrial insurance. The company was formed in 2006 as a result of a merger between South Africa’s premier insurance brokers, Thebe Risk Services and Prestasi Brokers.
